How long have you been an electrician?
“I’ve been doing this about 31 years,” said Ed Weber, an independent electrician. “I got my license in 1982, and have spent decades building relationships with homeowners and business owners in the area. I started with smaller jobs and built my skills, expanding into solving more complex electrical problems, including new construction electrical work.”
Weber concentrates his business on jobs within a 20-mile radius of Grafton. He focuses on work for residential customers and small businesses.
What type of electrical work do you do?
“Just about anything. Today I’m going to replace the light fixtures in a home. Later this week I’ll do a service upgrade at a home and then install an automatic generator for another customer,” Weber said. “We install a lot of generators, anything from portables for $1,500 all the way up to $9,000 for an automatic generator.
“I often install lights in bedroom ceilings, including ceiling fans or recessed lights, because builders don’t put in ceiling lights anymore.
“Another popular project is mounting televisions over fireplaces. When the fireplace is the focal point of the room, people like the TV above it with no wiring visible. On one job I put all the cable boxes in a cabinet in the next room, so you see nothing but the 65-inch television on the wall.
“When people are buying or selling a house, I often fix any electrical problems that show up in the report from the home inspector. Sometimes that work has to be done before the bank will approve a loan.”
Why is your experience so important?
“Here’s a perfect example why experience is important. I recently did a kitchen job in Auburn. The remodeling contractor did all the electrical work himself. I had to spend two days fixing all his mistakes, so the homeowner spent $3,000 he didn’t need to spend for mistakes plus double the fees on inspections, and then had to have the tile guy and painter come back in, so he is probably $5,000 in the hole.
“I‘ve seen a lot of burned wires where things weren’t done the right way.
“My code book changes every three years with new codes and regulations. I go to school every three years for a 21-hour refresher course. Every year manufacturers come out with new products and safety features, and a good electrician needs to know about those.”
What sets you apart from other electricians?
“I show up, and clean up after my work. This is a service business, and I know that my continued success rests on my reputation for honesty, reliability, and high quality workmanship. My reputation is at stake with every single job I do, which is why I want to make sure that every customer is satisfied.
“It has always been my policy to do only the electrical work that my customers are asking for, and not to pile on unnecessary work.
“I am proud of my A rating with the Better Business Bureau because it shows that, over the years I have been in business, I have provided excellent electrical service at a good value, and that my clients have been happy with my work.”
