Hudson – Florence L. (Grasty) Payne, 66, of Hudson, formerly of Marlborough, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015 at Marlborough Hills Healthcare Center. She was the beloved wife of 42 years to the late Alvin B. Payne Sr., who died in 2012.
Florence was born in Norfolk, Va., daughter of the late William and Margaret (Roberts) Grasty. She was raised in Cambridge and was a graduate of Lincoln Sudbury High School. She resided in Sudbury prior to moving to Marlborough, and had spent the past 10 years in Hudson.
She held several different positions working in the area, but truly enjoyed and cherished her opportunity to work with many local Hudson youths at the Hudson Boys & Girls Club until her retirement. She looked forward to the cooking and arts and crafts classes she offered at the club, helped institute the “Dinner and a Movie Night” function at the club, and was fondly known as “Nana” by the members. She was a member of the Greater Framingham Community Church.
Florence had many interests in her life, including writing poetry and music. Most of all, she loved being a mother, a loving wife, and doting grandmother to her six grandchildren, and was a very proud great-grandmother to her adoring great-grandson.
She is survived by her children, Alisa Payne and fiancé Matthew Surrette of Hudson, Jamyll Payne of Hudson, and Alvin B. Payne Jr. and wife Tanya of Hudson. She also leaves her six loving grandchildren, her adoring great-grandson, five siblings, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her four siblings.
Family and friends are invited to visit with the family Saturday, Jan. 10, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson (www.tighehamilton.com). A service and celebration of Florence’s life will follow at 12 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial services will be held privately at a later date.
