Westborough – Police Chief Alan Gordon released this statement this evening:
On 1/30/15, at approximately 5:57 PM, the Westborough Police Department responded to 27 Otis St. for a motor vehicle crash. The arriving units found a 2008 Buick Lucerne with heavy front end damage and a backhoe with damage to its right side.
The Buick was being operated by Robert Shaughnessy, age 79 of 19 Venus Dr. Shrewsbury. He was treated by Paramedics from the Westborough Fire Department and transported to U. Mass Medical where he did not survive his injuries.
The backhoe is owned by Grant Services Inc. of Whitinsville. It was being operated by Robert W. Goulding, age 36 of 31 A St. Whitinsville. He was treated by Paramedics for non life threatening injuries and also transported to U. Mass Medical.
The accident is being investigated by Westborough Ptl. Cliff Luce and the CEMLEC Accident Reconstruction Team.
