Westborough – Westborough resident John Ragan, executive vice president and global director of equities at Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, Inc. – A Stifel Company in Boston, has been elected to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Massachusetts Chapter Board of Trustees.

In 2000, Ragan was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), the most common type of acute leukemia among adults. As a disease that progresses quickly and often difficult to treat, Ragan began chemotherapy immediately. Then it was determined that a bone marrow transplant would be the next course of action and an anonymous match from Canada saved his life.

When Ragan’s transplant doctor, Dr. Edwin P. Alyea, III of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, nominated him to run for LLS’s Massachusetts Chapter Man of the Year, he could not pass up the opportunity to help support and promote life-saving research. As 2014 Man of the Year, Ragan raised over $200,000 for the Massachusetts Chapter.

He lives in Westborough with his wife, Katie, and their two sons, Sean and Matthew. A graduate of Boston College, Ragan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing and a master’s degree in finance from Boston College’s Carroll School of Management.
