Marlborough – On May 4, Stephan Barthold will represent the Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest (BGCMW) at the State House as their Youth of the Year. Stephan was selected this year for his high achievements in school, at the club and in the community.
Since 1947, Youth of the Year has been Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of club members. Each club in the U.S. selects a member of their club as their Youth of the Year and celebrates their outstanding achievements and hard work.
Stephan has been a part of the BGCMW for 11 years and more recently became a staff member in the afterschool program where he works directly with kids every day in physical recreation, social recreation and educational activities.
“Stephan has an outstanding work ethic and always comes to work prepared,” Club Director Steve Zepf said. “Stephan is an excellent team player and he is always willing to help out in any way possible. Stephan has a bright future ahead of him.”
Stephan will be attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute next year and plans to major in computer science. He will be continuing to work this summer as a staff counselor at the Marlborough Clubhouse.
“If it wasn’t for the Boys & Girls Club, I would not be as successful as I am today, and I can use all the skills I’ve learned here to be successful in the future,” Stephan said.
