Grafton – Registration is open for Apple Tree Arts summer theatre arts programs, early childhood music, ensembles and private music lessons this summer. The nonprofit community school of the arts based in Grafton offers year-round music and theatre arts programs for children, youth and adults.
The theatre arts program includes “Mary Poppins” for actors entering grades 8-12, starting Aug. 3 to 14, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The one week sessions include Show Choir for students entering grades 5-8, starting July 13, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; “Summer Camp” for actors entering grades 3-6, starting July 6, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; “Go Fish” for children entering grades 1-3, beginning July 13, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.; and “The Bear Went Over the Mountain,” for children entering grades 1-2, starting Aug. 17, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. All programs end with a final production.
The early childhood music course schedule includes several classes, “Arts Alive”, a one week session for children 4 to 5 years-old will run June 8-12, June 15-19 and July 6-10, daily 9 -11:30 a.m. with each week having a different musical theme. The five week sessions include “Mixed Age Move & Groove” for ages 1-4, starting July 1, 9-9:45 a.m. or 10-10:45 a.m. and “Intro to Keyboard” for ages 6-7 starting July 1, 4 – 4-5 p.m.
This summer the organization is debuting two new music programs for youths. The Youth Summer Band for musicians entering grades 6 to 9 starts July 14, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is directed by Angie Crockwell, guest artist and elementary music director at Millbury Street Elementary School in Grafton. The Jam Band directed by faculty member Russell Jewell is for students entering grades 5 to 8 and starts July 14, 6:30- 7: 30 p.m.
Private music instruction for ages 8 to adult continues throughout the summer with a flexible schedule. Instruction is available in piano, guitar, violin and fiddle, ukulele, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba, cello, harp, voice, organ and recorder. Only four lessons are required.
