Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Northborough/Shrewsbury – Delcie E. (Church) Wentworth, 98, a longtime resident of Shrewsbury and Northborough, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 30, 2015. She was the widow of William E. Wentworth, who died in 2001.

Mrs. Wentworth was born Aug. 28, 1916 in Pound, Va., the daughter of William and Sindra (Sturgill) Church. After high school, she enlisted in the Army, serving her country during WWII as a SSGT in the WAAC. She served as a munitions maker in Aberdeen, Md.

Mrs. Wentworth moved to Shrewsbury in 1956, remaining there until 1990. She then moved to Northborough, where she resided until 2014, when she moved to Webster to be closer to family.

She was a longtime hair stylist. She worked for many years in the cosmetology department of the former Denholm’s Department Store of Worcester. For over 20 years, she served hundreds of students as a cafeteria assistant within the Shrewsbury Public School system.

Mrs. Wentworth leaves one son, William E. Wentworth and his wife Lynn of North Grosvenordale, Conn., as well as one granddaughter, Taryn Wentworth. She also leaves one niece, Judy Hosmer of Woodstock, Conn.

A funeral service with military honors will be held Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 11 a.m., in the Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northborough. A calling hour will precede the service from 10-11 a.m. Mrs. Wentworth will then be laid to rest beside her husband in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
