Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Hudson – Berardino P. Giancola, 84, died peacefully at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015. For two days he labored, surrounded by the Love of his family. His devoted wife of 62 years, Pauline, bent down and gave him a goodnight kiss as she spoke the words, “I will always love you,” at which time he took in his last breath.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Estabrook); his children and their respective spouses, Paula Giancola, Joseph Giancola and Ron Beauchaine, Donna Giancola and Mark Turbitt, Louis Giancola, Dana and Fatima Giancola, and Linda and Tom Curley. He cherished his grandchildren, Andrea (Medlin), Randy Giancola, Gina Dawson, Jayme and Heidi Giancola, and Julia, Lauren and Jack Curley, and great-grandchildren Bella Medlin, Gabriel Giancola, and Janelle and John Dawson.

He was the eldest son of the late Ignazio and Odile (Brazeau) Giancola, and grew up in Marlborough with his siblings, Marie, Alfred, Elaine, and Francis.

He loved and played many sports: Marlborough High School baseball, semi-pro baseball for St. Marie, Marlborough Boys Club basketball, and competitive softball for Marlborough town leagues. He never missed a Hudson vs. Marlborough Thanksgiving game, a source of rivalry between his children and himself… Not to mention his lifetime devotion to the New York Yankees!

Bernie fell in love and married a Hudson girl, Pauline Estabrook, and moved to Hudson where they lived for 62 years and raised their family. His life revolved around loving, caring, guiding, and taking care of family. Family was the most important thing in his life.

In 1949, he joined the National Guard, 181st Division, and received many commendations as squad leader during his 21 years of service.

He worked at Gothic Craft in Northborough, followed by GM in Framingham, where he retired. He was also a member of the Local 422 UAW.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m., in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery of Hudson. The Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home of Hudson assisted with arrangements.

Contributions can be made in memory of Berardino Giancola to St. Michael’s Church, 20 High St., Hudson, MA 01749.
