Westborough – In July 2014, the Town purchased the former Westborough State Hospital property from the commonwealth of Massachusetts. This beautiful property totals approximately 95 acres with waterfront access and scenic views. A State Hospital Reuse Committee was formed by the Board of Selectmen to study the property’s resources and to develop recommendations for its future use. The committee is composed of representatives of town Boards and commissions, the Town Manager, Town Planner and local residents.
The committee has been meeting monthly, sometimes twice a month, since the start of the year. It has conducted site visits to understand the land and examine the condition of the existing buildings in an effort to take inventory of the Town’s new asset. The committee has developed a list of possible uses that both preserve and enhance its value to the public. Portions of the property have been recommended for continued recreational and conservation purposes. Other portions have been identified as potential for economic development.
The Reuse Committee invites the public to its future meetings to present and discuss the progress made and to explain its thinking and recommendations. The Committee wants to solicit public input in preparation of presenting its recommendations to the Board of Selectmen.

Meetings will be held Thursday, Nov. 19; Thursday, Dec. 3; and Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016. All meetings will be held in Memorial Hall in Town Hall, 34 West Main St., starting at 7 p.m.
