Hudson – Eleven Hudson High School musicians auditioned for the 59th annual Massachusetts Central District Senior Music Festival. Three (two vocalists, one instrumentalist) were selected to participate, one of whom also qualifies to audition for the 2016 Massachusetts All-State Music Festival.

The Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) sponsors district festivals each year in senior high and junior high divisions. On average, 1,400 students from 60 different high schools in Central Mass. participate in this audition process, and approximately 400 students are selected for the senior division festival. The festival prepares students for a concert performance at Mechanics’ Hall in Worcester in one of four performing ensembles: Chorus, Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band and Symphony Orchestra.

The Hudson High School students who participated in Senior Division Festival auditions Nov. 14 are Buren Andrews (tenor voice, grade 12), Devan Foreman (soprano voice, grade 11), Sadie Frade-Morel (soprano voice, grade 9), Mohini Ghoshroy (violin, grade 10), India Harvey (soprano voice, Grade 9), Jacob Doherty Munro (French horn, grade 10), Nathan Hall-Siktberg (bass voice, grade 11), Emily McLaughlin (tenor Saxophone, grade 11), Julia Smolowitz (violin, grade 11), Jack Snow (tenor voice, grade 11), and Thaya Zalewski (clarinet, and jazz alto sax, grade 11).

Three students – Andrews, Snow and Zalewski – were selected for the festival, which will be held the week of Jan. 11. The festival involves two six-hour rehearsals at Wachusett Regional High School, and a concert scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan.16, at Mechanics Hall. Thaya Zalewski also scored high enough to receive a recommendation to audition for the Massachusetts All-State Music Festival later this year.
