Northborough – Robert C. Trimble Sr., 84, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 1, 2016 while wintering in Florida. He had successfully recovered from extensive heart surgery and was active up to his last days.
Bob had a strong positive spirit, was a hard working person, and served in many philanthropic endeavors. He was quick to tell wonderful tales from his life experiences that were always “true stories.”
Bob was born Jan. 20, 1932 in Northborough, where he grew up a small-town local boy. He began racing stock cars at Westboro Speedway at the young age of 12. He married, raised a family, and built a successful business, all in Northborough.
As the founder of Everybody’s Bicycle and Hobby Shop, he sold and serviced many items throughout his 50-year career: bicycles, models, slot cars, RC cars, mopeds, BMX bicycles. He was well known throughout town. He served the town of Northborough in many capacities over his lifetime and spawned many businesses.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington State. He married his love and lifelong partner, Joyce Flynn, in 1955 and they had three children.
Bob was an avid collector and student of history, amassing a unique antique bicycle collection, among others.
He was a member of the Siloam Masonic Lodge in Westborough and a member of the Fire Brigade at the Aleppo Shriner Lodge in Wilmington. He was proud to serve those in need and was a dedicated patriot.
Bob was the captain of the Massachusetts Chapter of American Wheelman and could be seen riding his penny farthing high wheel bicycle in the Gimbels Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, as well as many other local parades closer to home. He was considered a friend to many libraries, where he would display his acclaimed mobile antique bicycle museum to raise funds for children’s literacy programs.
In Bob’s later years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Jacob, and great-nephews, David and Ben Larson. He would entertain them with his vast knowledge, wonderful stories, and his unique collection of things that constantly amazed. He enjoyed traveling the country in his Airstream trailer and continued to make new friends wherever he went, well into his golden years.
Bob was preceded by his loving wife of 57 years, Joyce (Flynn) Trimble. He leaves behind his cherished children, Bobb Trimble Jr. and Jennifer Trimble, both of Boston, and Brenda (Trimble) LaJeunesse, and only grandchild Jacob LaJeunesse of Indialantic, Fla.
A graveside ceremony will be held Wednesday, March 23, at 11:30 a.m., at the Howard Street Cemetery in Northborough. The family will receive family and friends following the ceremony at Romaines Restaurant, 299 West Main St. #1, Northborough.
