Region – On March 21, Notre Dame Health Care in Worcester celebrated resident Janice (Paschel) Reidy’s 105th birthday. The City of Worcester presented her with the key to the city, where she resided with her late husband Philip Reidy.

They both served in World War II and were stationed at an Army Base in Long Island, N.Y., where they met. After the war, they married and moved to Philip’s native town of Worcester.

Having been a Girl Scout in the 1920s and a Girl Scout leader in the 1930s in Philadelphia, Penn., where she grew up, Reidy decided to get involved with the Montachusett Girl Scout Council in Worcester. She was active in preparing the sale of Girl Scout cookies and served on the Board of Directors for Camp Green Eryie in Harvard.

As the oldest Girl Scout in Worcester, on April 13, Reidy was presented with an Honorary Member Certificate from the Girl Scouts of Western Massachusetts. The award was presented by Liz Gordon, director at Camp Green Eryie.

The event was organized by Shrewsbury Girl Scout leader Ghilislaine Sue Fournier and attended by her Brownie Troop 30705 as was as other troops from the town. Several residents of Notre Dame, who were either Girl Scouts or Girl Scout leaders, were thrilled to be a part of this event. The celebration included a flag ceremony, reciting the Promise and Law, Girl Scout songs and questions about Reidy’s Scouting experiences.
