Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Marlborough – John G. Buczek, 78, died Monday, May 9, 2016 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Joanne (Tremblay) Buczek, to whom he was married for 52 years.

He was born in Greenfield, the son of Winston L. and Helen A. (Berg) Phillips, and lived in Marlborough for the past 50 years. As a young child, he was taken in and adopted by Alexander and Wanda Buczek, who lovingly raised him as their own.

Mr. Buczek was a veteran of the United States Navy Reserve, serving much of his activated time in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He worked many years as a logistics manager for Honeywell Inc., Raytheon Company, and Incoterm.

Mr. Buczek was an avid baseball fan. He was involved with both the Marlborough Youth Baseball Association and the Marlborough Jr. Babe Ruth Baseball, serving on both boards of directors as president and many other positions for over 30 years. He was also active in the former Marlborough Pop Warner Football for many years. His greatest joy, though, was spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Matthew Buczek and his wife Danielle of Whitinsville; a daughter, Cheryl Sharon and her husband Thomas of Berlin; two grandchildren, Amanda and Thomas Sharon; a sister, Elaine Provenzano of San Antonio, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Mark Buczek, who passed away in 1999.

His funeral will be held Friday, May 13, at 10 a.m., in the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home (www.shortfuneral.com), 5 West Main St., Marlborough. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery of Marlborough. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Thursday, May 12, from 5-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests the memorial contributions to the National Marfan Foundation at www.marfan.org.
