Northborough – Police Chief William Lyver introduced Jeremy Trefrey at the Aug. 15 Board of Selectmen’s meeting for a permanent appointment to police sergeant. The position was left vacant by Joseph Galvin who was appointed lieutenant in July. Trefrey has most recently held the position of juvenile detective and liaison officer at the Algonquin Regional High School.
Based on assessments conducted in May, Trefrey was selected from a pool of five officers. He rose to the top and was recommended for sergeant because of demonstrated model behavior, professionalism and the ability to follow policy and procedures.
Selectman Leslie Rutan congratulated Officer Trefrey and asked him to introduce his family and any officers in attendance.
Selectman Jeff Amberson said that “it wasn’t a popularity contest and for anyone who achieves rank that this is something that they earn…. Jeremy has obviously worked hard and is an asset to the town.”
Selectman Dawn Rand made the motion to appoint Trefrey to police sergeant, which was seconded and unanimously approved. He was immediately sworn in by Andrew Dowd, Northborough town clerk.
