James M. Devoe Jr., 62, of HudsonHudson – James M. Devoe Jr. passed away suddenly at home Sunday, April 30, 2017 after being stricken ill at his home. He leaves behind his wife of 26 years, “The Lovely” Joyce E. Jahrling-Devoe.

Jim was born Nov. 1, 1954 in Newton to the late James “Putsie” M. Devoe Sr. and Barbara (Massie) Devoe. He was raised in Waltham and was a graduate with the class of 1972. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1974, and served as part of the submarine service. He rode on the Nautillus, Grayling and the Nathanael Greene 636 until 1986. After leaving the Navy, he stayed in touch with the “Greene” submarine veterans during their reunions.

Jim worked at Boston College in the Dining Services division for the past 30 years, a job which he loved and enjoyed meeting all of the new students. He enjoyed going to sporting events, especially BC men’s ice hockey and had season tickets for many years to both BC hockey and football. He especially enjoyed seeing BC beat Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., 41-39, in 1993.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, James M. Devoe III and Thomas R. Devoe, as well as his daughter, Diane R. Devoe. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, June D. Jahrling; his sisters, Marcia Delaney and her husband Michael and Christine Tufts and her husband Charles; and his three brothers, Michael and his wife Jeannette, Steven and his wife Lynn, and Paul Devoe, as well as his uncle, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Raymond C. Jahrling.

Calling hours will be held Friday, May 5, from 3-7 p.m., with a service at 6:30 p.m. in the Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel, 48 Central St., Hudson.
