Worcester man killed in Route 20 accident in Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Police Department released this statement this afternoon:

On Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 7:40 p.m., the Shrewsbury Police responded to a motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Rt. 20 (Hartford Turnpike) at Pineland Avenue. Shrewsbury Fire Department and U-Mass Paramedics also responded to the scene. The pedestrian, (Cory W. Bonin, 40 years old, Worcester, Ma.) who was struck was transported to U-Mass Memorial Medical Center where he died later from his injuries.

The investigation has determined the vehicle (2005-Ford Econ Van) was traveling East in right most travel lane on Rt. 20 by Pineland Avenue when it struck the pedestrian in that lane. The operator of the van stayed at the scene and cooperated with the Shrewsbury Police.

Route 20 was partially closed for over three hours while the Shrewsbury Police Crash Reconstruction Team investigated the scene. Sgt. Michael O’Connor and Officer Ryan Chartrand are investigating the crash in conjunction with the Office of Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early. No charges have been filed as the accident remains under investigation.
