Shrewsbury – On March 19, the Food Panty at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Shrewsbury received a real boost. Over two shopping carts full of non-perishables and a check in the amount of $2,760.24 was presented to St. Anne’s Human Services Director Elaine Leblanc and JoAnn Keegan, manager of their Food Pantry, from the Shrewsbury Stop & Shop.

“This is an annual donation which is part of Stop & Shop’s Food for Friends program where we collect at Thanksgiving and Christmas time from the community,” explained Stop & Shop General Manager Carl Johnston. “I am very pleased to be giving this to St. Anne’s because it’s a great cause. We do other things and donate other foods to them and the community really helps pull together with us to do this.”

“It is most helpful, and we are serving a lot of people in Shrewsbury,” Leblanc said. “We have marvelous support in Shrewsbury, we really do, and I think the Shrewsbury residents have been behind us 100-plus percent. We are really blessed.”

She noted that they will be having a food distribution event and giving some of the funds from the Stop & Shop donation in the form of gift cards to families in need.
