Volunteers still needed for Shrewsbury High School ‘Reality Check’

Shrewsbury – Organizers of Shrewsbury High School’s ‘Reality Check’ are asking for additional volunteers for the event to be held Tuesday, May 1, from 7-11:30 a.m. at SHS.

Reality Check is a financial literacy fair for the school’s students where, after, having learned basic budgeting concepts in the classroom, they will interact with professionals who will provide real-life data in order to develop a personal budget.

The fair has various “stations” staffed by “experts” who discuss needs and offer data regarding their specific area of expertise. Stations exist for Housing, Transportation, Health and Nutrition, Furniture, Personal Technology, Luxury Items, Savings & Retirement, and Credit and Lending.

After visiting all stations and having made various cost decisions, the students will have their budgets reviewed and given time to discuss their financial decisions.

Organizers are seeking 100 – 150 professionals to volunteer 4.5 hours of their time on May 1. Volunteers need to arrive by 7 a.m. with the students then arriving at 7:30 a.m. A light lunch will be available after the fair for volunteers.
