Shrewsbury – Diplomas were presented to 432 class of 2018 graduates during a ceremony May 31 at the Shrewsbury High School (SHS) Field House.

Principal Todd Bazydlo welcomed everyone to the 140th SHS graduation ceremony, noting that six diplomas were presented at the first. Superintendent Dr. Joseph Sawyer joked with graduates about the power of calling so many snow days, adding, “You’re welcome.” School Committee Chair Jason Palitsch, a 2007 SHS alum, established his perspective with the graduates, telling them, “I’m only a decade away from those seats you’re sitting in now.”

Valedictorian Ahana Mukhopadhyay discussed her classmates’ experience of saying goodbyes and transitioning to their next stage of life. Salutatorian Albert Xu offered his classmates advice. Other speakers included class officers Gary Ren, president; Jacob Garrido, vice president; Charles Kang, treasurer; and Jessica Miksis, class marshal; as well as Alaina Bailey, Student Council president.

Music was provided by the SHS Orchestra conducted by Kate Mercadante, and the Senior Choir under the direction of Michael Lapomardo accompanied by pianist Sophie Chen.
