Northborough – Amelia Gelazius Peters, 95, of Northborough, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 19, 2018. Amelia was born on June 9, 1923 to Yurgis and Kazimira Gelazius in Brooklyn, N.Y. Her husband, William, passed away in 2007.

She leaves her son, William G. Peters and his wife Susan and daughter, Lorraine Peters, both of Northborough, and her daughter, Judith Scher and her husband Reid of Windham, Maine. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Amelia attended Grover Cleveland High School in Queens, N.Y., and attended Brooklyn College for a time before marrying and becoming a full time homemaker. She and her family moved to Northborough in 1958 where they had vacationed for years.

Amelia was an active member of St. Bernadette’s Church. She was a long-time volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

Amelia traveled in several countries in Europe as well as the Maritime provinces of Canada and the west coast from Mexico to British Columbia. She particularly enjoyed the beauty of nature and often visited The Garden in the Woods.

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 9, at 11 a.m., at St. Bernadette’s Church, 266 Main St., Northborough. There will be a reception following the Mass at 12 p.m. at First Parish Church Unitarian, 40 Church St., Northborough.

Guests are invited to attend either the Mass, the reception, or both, as your time and schedules allow. This day would have been Mom’s 95th birthday.  Amelia did not like black, therefore, the family asks that guests wear spring colors as we celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01606.
