Shrewsbury – Devin Merullo, a graduate of Shrewsbury High School (2009) and Tufts University (2013), recently received his Ph.D. in zoology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His dissertation examines the neural control of vocal communication across contexts, using songbirds as a model system. During his graduate studies, he spent six months at Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan, to conduct research on vocal learning. Work was funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. Merullo has accepted a position as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, where he will continue to research the neurobiology of vocal communication.
