Shrewsbury – When students gathered for a senior cookout at Shrewsbury High School Oct. 20, they had a special dessert waiting for them – 0ver 200 cookies baked by members of their own class.

The young bakers are participants in the Mobile On-Site Vocational Exploration (M.O.V.E.) program that allows them to get real-life job experience at two local hotels – The Courtyard by Marriot and Best Western Royal Plaza, both in Marlborough.

The students in this program, which is an elective daily class, join it at the recommendation of their teachers. Traditionally they are students who need direction in the areas of social/personal behavior, classroom achievement and/or appropriate attendance levels.

“They have worked very hard and put a lot of time in on this,” Mary Simone, the general manager at the Courtyard by Marriot, said of the students. “And they did a great job!”
