Marie F. WolikShrewsbury – Marie F. (McLaughlin) Wolik, 76, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully Feb. 16, 2019 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home with her family gathered around her.

Marie was born in Boston, a daughter to the late Maurice and Margaret (Burgess) McLaughlin. She was a graduate of Hudson High School and later received her associate degree from the former Ward’s Secretarial School.

Marie worked as the personal secretary for Spag’s for many years before finally retiring as a bookkeeper from Ford’s Home Town Services. In 1962, Marie married the late Henry J. Wolik, who passed in August 2018, and they moved to Shrewsbury, where they raised their family and began a 55-year life together.

Marie was a faithful and devoted member of St. Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury where she taught CCD for 22 years. She was an avid reader who you would often find at the Shrewsbury Library or at her local Bookmobile stop. Marie also loved walking around Lake Park and being by the beach, especially in Maine. Her biggest hobby, though, was her family, and she loved being a mother and grandmother. She was unlike any other to her children and grandchildren, and like most mothers, they were not only her biggest hobby but the greatest of all her love.

Marie is survived by her four children, Catherine M. Vaucher and her partner John McEnaney of Danvers, Margaret M. Boatwright of West Boylston, Anne M. Snell and her husband Christopher of Worcester, and Michael F. Wolik and his wife Ryan of Cottage Grove, Ore.; and her sister, Carolann Raiano of Marlborough, as well as six grandchildren, two great granddaughters, many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Paul McLaughlin.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m., in St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury. A period of calling hours will be held Feb. 23, from 8-10:15 a.m., in the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, prior to departure for her funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Meals on Wheels, c/o Elder Services of Worcester Area Inc., 67 Millbrook St., Suite 100, Worcester, MA 01606.
