Northborough – The Algonquin Regional High School baseball team defeated Leominster High School 3-2 in a thriller of a game April 12 at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when Algonquin managed to put a run on the board without getting a hit.  Pat Solomon reached first after a dropped third strike, and advanced to third courtesy of two errors on subsequent plays, before dashing home on a passed ball.

Leominster bounced back with two runs in the top of the sixth, and held the lead through the bottom of the seventh.  Owen Coderre and Sam Forbush walked, and Tony Massaglia laid down a bunt single to load the bases.  Jack Branson then hit a walkoff double into left field, knocking in two runs.

Sophomore pitcher Sam Hill got the win for Algonquin, striking out seven and giving up just four hits.

Algonquin improved to 4-0 on the season, while Leominster fell to 1-1.
