Shrewsbury – The “Holdin’ Back” band didn’t disappoint on July 4 when they headlined at Shrewsbury’s family oriented celebration at Dean Park. They performed for well over an hour at the bandstand, opening with the national anthem before performing other patriotic songs and “feel good” rock and roll tunes.

The weather was warm and a bit humid but that didn’t impact the enjoyment of over 200 people, of all ages, who gathered for this inaugural event which was preceded by the ever popular Doll (and Dog) Carriage and Bike Parade.  Hotdogs and hamburgers were available for purchase from Boy Scout Troop 114. However, many attendees packed their own picnics.

Gary Grindle, Shrewsbury’s recreation supervisor,  said that he was very pleased with the event and its new format. He noted that by holding the event in the late afternoon/early evening timeframe, they were able to avoid intolerable afternoon temperatures.  He added that he is already looking forward to next year’s July 4th celebration.
