Shrewsbury – One hundred and twenty members of the Shrewsbury High School class of 1969 recently gathered to celebrate their 50th class reunion. The reunion was held at the Wachusett Country Club Sept. 28, to coincide with the Spirit of Shrewsbury Fall Festival weekend. Many classmates also attended a brunch at Maxwell Silverman’s Luciano’s Restaurant at Union Station in Worcester the following morning.

Classmates came from the west coast, including California and Seattle, Wash. Others came from Michigan and Tennessee and several attendees visited from the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida as well as many states from the Northeast.

The committee began small with only a handful, but grew to a committee of 14.  The committee members included Paul Sweeney, Joyce Bartlett Perreault, Diane Savage Crouse, Linda Sbrogna Giard, Deb Yankus Roy, Debbi Nolli Couture, Gail Moore Reno, Jack Perreault, Denise Russell Johnson, Jean Morton Johnson, Susan Lane Ostrosky, Cathy Dumas Collins, Suzanne Biscotti Brown, and Jim Mercik.

This enthusiastic and dedicated group of volunteers meant that the evening had all of the special touches including a great memorabilia table with old photos. The welcoming speech by Joyce Bartlett Perreault took the group down memory lane, while comparing it to today’s world of technology.

A touching Memory Corner with candles was set up to honor those who had passed away.

Classmates enjoyed dancing to the music of the Beatles, The Temptations, The Rolling Stones and the music of Woodstock. The class of 1969 was part of a generation that saw the beginning of the peace movement and hippie counterculture as well as the first astronaut landing on the moon. At the reunion, guests enjoyed reminiscing about those seminal times as well as catching up on 50 years of personal history.
