Westborough nonprofits seek participants and sponsors for Polar Plunge fundraiserWestborough – The nonprofit organization In Your Shoes will hold a Polar Plunge at Lake Chauncy Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019 from 12–2 p.m. They are asking individuals as well as teams to dunk themselves in Lake Chauncy for a pledge, challenge or donation. Each plunger registration is $100.

At the event, individuals and teams will “plunge” into the chilly waters of Lake Chauncy to show their support for In Your Shoes and Westborough Connects. There will be refreshments sponsored by Wegmans, Zumba by Martha Convers, entertainment from the Westborough High School Acapella group, and The Polar Bear “Orson” from Polar Beverages on hand to encourage the spectators and plungers.

Participants are encouraged to dress in costume and teams are also encouraged. Judges will determine winners among the plungers in categories such as “Most Spirited” and “Best Costume.” There will also be prizes for the most money raised as an individual/team.

“The Polar Plunge fundraiser is a fun way to get the community out to support two great local organizations,” said event organizer and In Your Shoes Co-Founder and Co-President Terry Gavin. “As we have done in the past, 50 percent of all monies raised is given to a Westborough organization. We have chosen Westborough Connects as the recipient of our fundraiser this year.”

Registration is now open at www.inyourshoeswestborough.com. Plungers must be 18 years or older. For people who wish to participate but stay dry, “Virtual Plungers” can also register with a $100 fee. Both organizations also welcome donations through the In Your Shoes website.

Westborough Fire and EMS dive team members will be on hand to ensure everyone’s safety.
