Region – At the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce’s 124th Annual Meeting Nov. 7, Senate President Karen E. Spilka presented the first “Service Above Self” award which was created to honor longtime Chamber board member, Attorney Peter Barbieri of Fletcher Tilton.

The award’s first recipient, Jill Schindler, was director of marketing and business development at the chamber for almost five years and now serves as outreach & development director for the MetroWest Visitors Bureau.

“I am truly honored to be the first recipient of the Peter Barbieri Service Above Self Award,” Schindler said. “Peter worked selflessly for 27 years to support the MetroWest Chamber. I celebrate his efforts and am proud to carry forth this honor in his name. I continue to have a wonderful relationship with the chamber, its staff, board and members. And I look forward to a bright future in MetroWest.”

MetroWest Chamber President Jim Giammarinaro added: “I’ve known Peter since I joined the chamber as a member 20 years ago. He flawlessly served as the chamber’s legal counsel, anticipating and averting problems again and again, using his diligence and alertness to provide wise counsel, often redirecting us to follow a better path. Peter has been enormously helpful with all matters relating to compliance and reporting. The chamber is a stronger and better entity because of his participation.”

Barbieri has spent his entire career as a commercial real estate attorney serving the MetroWest. He is knowledgeable in all aspects of real estate development, including acquisitions, leasing, construction and permitting. He has also tirelessly served a number of nonprofit organizations, helping them run their organizations smoothly, and steering them away from potential problems.
