The tale of Fiona and the WFD
Cartoon/Ed Turner

Westborough – Recently members of the Westborough Fire Department made two dramatic rescues. The first was assisting a 78-year-old man, Bill Johnston, who had fallen into the Cedar Swamp after trying to track his falcon. After two hours in treacherous conditions they were able to rescue Johnston, who although very grateful for being saved, was distraught about his missing falcon, Fiona.

Next, Firefighter Mark Boyer, on his own time, was able to track down Fiona, reuniting her with an overjoyed Johnston. Fiona is receiving veterinary care for wounds she suffered from what was believed to be an attack from a red-tailed hawk. Johnston noted that his attitude on life has now changed, thanks to the WFD members who he calls “saints.”
