Westborough – The Rotary Club of Westborough focuses on the local community and has long made Westborough High School a priority. This year, the Rotary Club of Westborough is providing $10,000 in Scholarship Awards to help with the first year of college expenses for students who have a proven record of service to the community and an established level of academic achievement. These scholarships are intended for students graduating from the publicly funded Westborough High School or Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School.

According to a press release from the club, “ Our scholarships recognize students who contribute to a world vision where people unite and take action to create lasting change in our communities and across the globe.  We seek students who have demonstrated leadership in school and in the Westborough community, present strong academic achievement and can articulate how they plan to make service a part of their lives in college and beyond.”

Applications are now being received for scholarships through a Google Form at https://bit.ly/WRCScholarship. Deadline for application submission is April 24, 2020.

The Rotary Club of Westborough supports a wide range of humanitarian programs, both in Westborough and across the globe. Locally, they have supported Westborough High School’s Rangers on Track athletic fields renovation, the BORO program, the food pantry and Westborough Youth & Family Services’ Holiday Store, among many other worthwhile causes. This past year, with the help of a Rotary grant, they sponsored a series of health and substance use education programs in partnership with Westborough Connects, Westborough Public Schools and Youth & Family Services, and they provided funding to the Westborough Fire Department for a new automatic external defibrillator to be installed at Baystate Commons. Their newly formed Committee on the Environment is working to raise awareness and inspire local action on climate change and other critical issues. And their Rotary Interact Club brings together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self.
