Shrewsbury – Jim Smith and wife Marcia were busy on May 20 placing homemade posters along their property which faces Route 140 near the Town Common The posters featured the faces of the Class of 2020.

“This is just my way of honoring the seniors who are graduating this year,” Jim said.

Both Jim and Marcia are longtime Shrewsbury residents with deep roots in the Shrewsbury Public School system. Marcia is a retired educator who spent 19 years as a curriculum specialist at Spring Street School. Jim is the coach for Shrewsbury High School’s cross country team.

Many residents may know the Smiths better as their alter egos – General and Mrs. Artemas Ward. They have portrayed the historic couple in the schools and community for many years.

“We just feel so bad for the kids who are missing out on formal graduation and their senior week activities,” Jim added. “We wanted to do something special.”

“We really are like a family and there is a lot of love,” noted Marcia.
