Westborough – Residents from the Highlands Gracious Retirement Living complex paid a visit to the Westborough Police and Fire departments Sept. 4 to personally thank the first responders for the support they continually give those who live at the complex.

The residents had hand crafted a beautiful patriotic wreath for each department as well as some homemade treats from the Highland’s chef.

At the fire department, Fire Chief Patrick Purcell thanked the residents, noting that the department’s members felt “fortunate to be in this town.”

“We have bad days and great days here,” he said. “Days like this are great ones. We appreciate so much you taking the time to come here. We are happy to help take care of you when you need us.”

Deputy Police Chief Todd Minardi echoed that sentiment when the residents stopped at the Police Station.

“This is such a nice surprise – thank you very much – we appreciate this kindness,” he told the residents. “We will make sure we hang this wreath in our lobby so everyone can enjoy it.”
