MARLBOROUGH/HUDSON – Most of last week’s games went on as scheduled. But May showers towards the end of the week caused some postponements.

Marlborough and Hudson schools did not play on May 29 due to the weather.

Even so, it was another banner week for the softball team at Marlborough’s Advanced Math and Science Academy. Their standout squad notched two more wins, shutting out Douglas 12-0 on May 24 before then grinding out a slimmer victory over Nipmuc by a score of 6-3 on May 28.

AMSA has ridden a wave of success this year even with an abnormally young team. Of the 10 players listed on their roster for one recent game on May 21, for example, five were in seventh, eighth or ninth grade.

Elsewhere on the softball diamond, Hudson dispatched Shrewsbury and Leominster with similarly explosive offensive performances. They beat Shrewsbury 17-1 and topped Leominster by a score of 17-5, last week.

Marlborough continued the regional softball dominance last week, scoring a whopping 57 runs across just three games. As they defeated Groton Dunstable, St. Bernard’s and Fitchburg, though, their counterparts on the baseball field struggled, falling to Groton Dunstable 8-3 and losing to Fitchburg by a score of 4-2.

AMSA won its three track and field meets just as its girls tennis team posted back to back shutout victories on the court.

Hudson girls tennis also did well, winning its two matches.
