Stolen vehicle found in Lake Quinsigamond

SHREWSBURY – A stolen vehicle went into Lake Quinsigamond June 16, according to Shrewsbury Police. 

The vehicle was unoccupied, police said.

According to a Shrewsbury police press release the SUV — a 2014 Ford Edge — had been reported stolen that evening from Polar Park in Worcester. 

Officers received a report of a vehicle off the road and in the lake near the corner of Main Street and North Quinsigamond at about 9:30 p.m. June 16, according to the press release.

Witnesses watched the taillights sink into the lake, police wrote. Shrewsbury responders reported that the SUV was about 150 feet offshore and 25 feet underwater. 

Shrewsbury police and firefighters sent out boats and a rescue swimmer, but the Worcester Fire Department Dive Team was deployed because of how deep the SUV was. 

The first responders were able to tow the SUV to land, police said.

Shrewsbury and Worcester Police Departments, Shrewsbury and Worcester Fire Departments, Massachusetts State Police and Worcester EMS also responded.
