Marie E. GelinaMarlborough – Marie E. (Kennedy) Gelina, 78, of Marlborough, died on July 5, 2021, at Marlborough Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Marie was born in Toronto, Canada, the daughter of the late, Edmond and Mildred (Bernard) Kennedy. She was employed by Prime Computer, also worked as a Window Dresser at Grant’s and Kennedy’s Market in Marlborough. She graduated from St. Margaret’s, Class of ’64, and enjoyed sewing and cooking.

Affectionately known as Mrs. Claus, Marie and her fiancé, Thomas Kurbs, would play Santa and Mrs. Claus for over 20 years bringing joy to many community organizations, including the American Legion and ITAM.

She is survived by her two sons, Shawn Gelina and his wife Wendy of Marlborough and Michael Kurbs of Chelmsford; her daughter, Theresa Shillingford and her husband Clive of Canada; her brother, Dennis Kennedy and his wife Carolyn of Maine; nine grandchildren, Shannon, Samantha, Casey, David, Brian, Cassie, Christopher, Ryan, and Skylar; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Mark Gelina in 2010 and David Gelina in 2018, and her fiancé, Thomas Kurbs.

Following cremation, memorial calling hours will be held on Friday, July 23, from 6-8 p.m., in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St., Marlborough. Marie will be buried with her sons in Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215.
