There is a lot going on in Marlborough. Take in a concert, enjoy Greek festivities, watch a parade and even go to the beach.
Labor Day Weekend Concert planned at Union Common
A special Labor Day Weekend Concert will take place on Sunday, Sept. 5 and Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 8:30 p.m., in Union Common, located at the intersection of Main and Bolton (Rte. 85) streets.
“Late Bus,” a band of dedicated musicians which began in 2013, continues to roll on, playing an eclectic mix of classic rock, pop and even a disco tune or two. They pride themselves on staying true to the originals, while bringing their own unique sound.
Admission is free. Invite your family and friends and bring a chair or a blanket to sit on.
Historical Society presents wedding exhibit
The Marlborough Historical Society will present “A Celebration of Vintage Wedding Attire,” on Sept. 5 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Peter Rice Homestead at 377 Elm St. in Marlborough, with a $5 donation.
Beach to reopen for Labor Day Weekend
Memorial Beach, off Hosmer Street, is a great place to visit. The beach is closed this week but will reopen for the Labor Day Weekend. Enjoy the sand and water on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 11:30 a.m. – 5:45 p.m.
Lions Club plans Bed Race
The Marlborough Lions Club 39th Annual Labor Day Bed Race challenge will be held Monday, Sept. 6, beginning at 10:30 a.m. before the Labor Day Parade at noon.
The runners will race the beds on Main Street, making the bed at City Hall, continuing on the course and racing back to their starting line to unmake the bed.
Runners are timed and the one with the shortest time wins. Out of 34 entries in the 2019 Bed Race, the winner was the Marlborough Fire Department. Spectators are welcome.
First Church to host barbecue
Since 1991, the First Church in Marlborough, Congregational, has held an annual Labor Day Barbecue on Union Common. The tradition continues on Monday, Labor Day, Sept. 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Union Common, at the corner of High and Bolton (Rte. 85) Streets.
The annual event has been renamed the “Gary Hollis Memorial Labor Day BBQ” in honor of the late Gary Hollis, who tirelessly worked on this BBQ for more than two decades.
The BBQ will continue throughout the Labor Day Parade with a menu that includes hot dogs, chili dogs, sausages with peppers and onions, pulled pork, chips and potato salad for sides, as well as water and sodas.
Mayor announces Senior Beach BBQ & Concert
Mayor Arthur Vigeant has announced a Senior Beach BBQ & Concert on Wednesday, Sept. 8, from 11:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m., at Memorial Beach (rain date Thursday, Sept. 9).
If you are 60+ and a resident of Marlborough, come on down to the beautiful Memorial Beach to enjoy music by “Flashback” and some light refreshments, including burgers and dogs.
This event is free of charge. Please bring your own chair to the event. Please RSVP to the Mayor’s Office at 508-460-3770.
Greek Festival returns
The Saints Anargyroi Greek Festival, 9 Central St., is back for Labor Day weekend on Saturday, Sept 4 from noon to 11 p.m., on Sunday, Sept. 5 from noon to 11 p.m. and on Monday, Sept. 6 from noon to 3 p.m.
Labor Day Parade to run through Downtown
The Labor Day Parade begins at noon at Pleasant and Lincoln Streets and follows the traditional route.
MRCC, Rotary Club plan recycling event
The Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce joins with the Marlborough Rotary Club in their 11th year of recycling events on Saturday, Sept. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Navin Rink Parking Lot, 451 Bolton St., Marlborough.
It is $40 per car/truckload and anyone from anywhere in New England is encouraged to clean out their attics, basements, and businesses and get rid of their junk.
