Margaret Markert, 84, of SouthboroughSouthborough – Margaret ‘Peg’ (Hellrigel) Markert, 84, of Southborough, returned to God peacefully on Sept. 2, 2021, at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham. Peg was the beloved wife and dance partner of her “True Love” Richard M. Markert for over 61 years.

Born and raised in Queens, Peg graduated from Dominican Commercial High School in Jamaica, N.Y., which gave her the skills she needed to pursue a career as a secretary where, among other places, she worked for churches of multiple Christian denominations, including having the privilege of working for the late Bishop Francis Mugavero in NYC.

Peg accepted a position as a legal secretary at the law firm of Chesley Oriel in Framingham, where she retired after 25 years of service. She was a member the National Association of Legal Secretaries and as a result of her great work she was awarded the title of Legal Secretary of the Year in Massachusetts.

Peg was a member of Southborough Senior Center, where she enjoyed singing with her friends and was also recognized by the State of Massachusetts for her service in making newcomers feel welcome. She was very giving of her time and volunteered for many worthwhile causes. Peg was also a Eucharist Minister and would bring Communion to homebound parishioners. Her life was a witness to her faith, living a life of love and service to all. They say if you had the pleasure of knowing Peg you never forgot her.

Besides her loving husband, she leaves her son, Michael Markert of Southborough; her daughter, Susan Markert Parabicoli, and her granddaughter, Meg Markert Parabicoli, both of Marlborough; her niece, Caryl Chancey of Freeport, N.Y.; and her Goddaughter, Theresa Lawrence of East Hampton, N.Y.

The family with grateful hearts would like to thank the Carmelite Sisters, nurses, CNAs and staff of St. Patrick’s Manor for making Peg’s time with them a loving and comforting experience.

A visiting hour will be held on Friday, Sept. 10, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough. A Mass of Resurrection will be on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. John Evangelist Church, 20 Church St., Hopkinton. Burial will follow in the Southborough Rural Cemetery.
