MARLBOROUGH – Marlborough High School’s Ava VanBuskirk set a school record over the weekend, completing the 55 meter dash in 7.63 seconds.

The record breaking performance took place at the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association’s Speed Classic meet at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Saturday.

VanBuskirk’s sprint earned her fourth place out of 139 competitors in the girls 55 meter dash finals.

“Congratulations Ava,” Marlborough High School Athletic Director Jeff Rudzinsky tweeted after VanBuskirk’s team announced her record via their own Twitter account.

VanBuskirk was one of several Panthers athletes in action over the weekend. Freshman Wendy Aftosmis snagged her own top tier finish in the 55 meter dash finals, coming in 18th place in that same 139 person field.

Six other Marlborough runners also competed in the 55 meter dash.

VanBuskirk herself won the 300 meter dash and came in sixth place in the long jump.
