Margaret A. AthanasAuburn – Margaret A. “Marge” (Proko) Athanas, 90 years old, of Auburn and most recently of the Coleman House in Northborough, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 5, 2022. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Samuel Athanas, in 2014, and their son, Anthony Athanas, in 1985.

Margaret leaves her loving daughters, Denise V. Thompson and her husband Matthew, of Westminster and Carolyn A. Lavin and her husband William, of Northborough; her cherished grandchildren, Alexander Lavin and his wife Meghan, of Holden, Joseph Lavin and his wife Lauren, of New York City, and Lindsay Lavin, of Everett, MA. In addition, her great-grandchildren, Grace, Patrick, Claire, and Goldie Lavin, along with many nieces and nephews. She was deeply devoted to her family and passionately cared about them all. She was also predeceased by her siblings: James, Peter, Paul, George, Steven, Henry, Christy, Helen Proko, and Tessie Sotir, and their parents, Samuel and Anna (Costa) Proko.

Born and raised in Worcester, Margaret was a graduate of Commerce High School. She met and married the love of her life Sam and raised their family in Auburn. She worked at times for her family’s business, Flowerland of Worcester. Marge mostly adored her family and will be remembered for her kind and caring nature and the many happy occasions that were shared. Margaret and Sam enjoyed extensive traveling, walks and spending summers in Brewster, Cape Cod and the winter months in Jupiter, Florida. She enjoyed bowling and was on many leagues, and volunteered teaching the blind how to bowl. She was a member of St. Mary’s Albanian Church, where she cooked and worked at their many Albanian festivals.

Her family would like to thank the entire staff at Coleman House for the wonderful care they gave to Margaret as well as their dedication to all their residents. Memorial donations can be made to the Coleman House Patient Activity Fund, 112 West Main St., Northborough, Mass 01532.
Marge’s family will be celebrating her life privately, and burial will be with her husband and son at Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
