SHREWSBURY – Shrewsbury is still looking for people to run to be elected Town Meeting members.

The deadline to return nomination papers is tomorrow at 5 p.m.

“Town Meeting members are needed in all precincts!” the town wrote in a Facebook post. “Now is the time to get involved in Representative Town Meeting, the legislative body in the Town of Shrewsbury.”

Shrewsbury’s annual election is May 3.

Nine out of 10 of the Shrewsbury precinct boundaries changed with the results from the 2020 Federal Census to more evenly distribute residents and Town Meeting members.

Shrewsbury’s Town Meeting is representative, which means that its members are elected by voters

All of the seats in every precinct besides precinct three are open and must be filled by the election. The top third of candidates will receive a three-year term, next third will receive a two-year term and the bottom third will be elected to a one-year term.

For precinct three, the customary Town Meeting members are up for election to a three-year term.

A candidate needs to pull nomination papers and obtain at least 10 signatures of registered voters in their precinct to run for to be a Town Meeting member.

Besides Town Meeting, two seats are open on the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen, two on the School Committee, one on the Shrewsbury Housing Authority and three on the Trustees of the Shrewsbury Public Library.
