Nelida M. GomezHudson – Nelida “Mama” M. (Luna) Gomez, 89, of Hudson, MA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester, MA, after a period of declining health. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of over 50 years, Santos Gomez, who predeceased her on April 1, 2019.

Nelida was born in Coamo, Puerto Rico, on October 19, 1932, a daughter of the late Jesus Mateo and Casimara Luna Rodriguez. She moved to Hudson, MA , in 1959, where she has been a longtime resident and an active member of the community. She worked for many years at Thomas Taylor Company and also Hudson Lock Company as a machine operator, before eventually retiring. She married her beloved husband Santos Gomez at Immaculate Conception Church in Marlborough in 1968 and together embarked on over 50 years of marriage together before he predeceased her.

Nelida was affectionately known by all around town as “Mama” from her 11 years working locally at the Salvation Army. True to her Puerto Rican Heritage she knew her way around the kitchen and prepared delicious Puerto Rican traditional meals. Mama was a generous and inviting host, who always welcomed visitors to her home and no one ever left with an empty stomach. She was truly a kind and loving woman, who will be dearly missed by all.

Mama leaves behind her 5 children, Gilbert Guzman and his spouse Ana Burgos, Ana Voltz-Didion and her spouse Randall Didion, Rafael Rivera and his spouse Leda Pedroga, Evelyn Colon and her spouse Santos and Domingo Luna; 4 stepchildren, Santos Gomez, Jimmy Gomez and his spouse Bette Mallozi, Stephen Gomez and his spouse Bonnie  and Lynda Russell; 5 siblings, Aurea Figueroa, Olga Luna, Jose A. Luna, Jose G. Luna and Ida Sotomayer; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Santos Gomez, she was also predeceased by 5 siblings, German Luna, Eustaquio Luna, Aleja Colon, Jose A Rios and Aida Nieves.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 5pm until 8pm on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial Will be celebrated at 9am on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, MA; followed by a procession to Saint Michael Cemetery in Hudson for Committal Services.
