MARLBOROUGH – Marlborough joined in Memorial Day observances across the region on Monday, holding its annual parade and ceremonies in the downtown area.

The parade began at the American Legion Hall, continuing west along Main Street and ending at the city’s Memorial Square war memorials.

Parade participants included veterans, the Marlborough High School marching band, scouting groups and elected officials, with Mayor Arthur Vigeant and City Councilor Teona Brown delivering speeches at the conclusion of services.

The route included stops at four memorials dedicated to fallen soldiers in the War of 1812, the Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Vietnam War, the Korean War, and the Spanish American War.

While commemorating these memorials, numerous veterans were called to decorate the monuments.

During each stop, the death tolls of Marlborough’s fallen soldiers were announced for the corresponding wars. Following these announcements, the chaplain was asked to read a prayer as participants and attendees paused for a moment of silence.

Canceled in 2020, and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this marked the return of the parade portion of Marlborough’s Memorial Day traditions.
