Doris G. KalilShrewsbury – Doris G. (Brodeur) Kalil, 99, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 27, 2022 with family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, George N. “Bob” Kalil in 2008.

She leaves her children, David G. Kalil of Westerly R.I., Lisa A. Malesky and her husband John of Auburn, Peter G. Kalil of Shrewsbury, Susan M. Collins and her husband Jim of Shrewsbury, and Stephen Kalil and his wife Laurie, of Worcester; her grandchildren, Krista Kalil, Michael Kalil, Nicholas Kalil, Jennifer Shea, Michelle Spano, Jay Malesky, Zachary Zompetti, and Griffin Zompetti; her seventeen great-grandchildren; many nieces, and nephews. Doris was predeceased by her siblings; the late Henry Brodeur, Irene Lorian, Rita Bouthillier, Wilfred Brodeur, Raymond Brodeur, Jeanne Gannon, and Constance Brodeur.

Doris was born in Worcester to the late Wilfred and Bertha (David) Brodeur. She was a graduate of Girls Trade School.

Doris was first and foremost a homemaker and devoted mother to her children. Spending time with family brought her the most joy in life. She was a talented seamstress and a great cook who on occasion would help out in the kitchen of the El Morocco Restaurant.

Playing cards at the kitchen table with family and friends was number two on her list, and winning the game was her specialty! From early childhood to the present, it was one of her favorite past times.

She loved bowling and played for many years on the Town and Country and Holy Name Leagues.

Doris was proud of her French heritage and was fluent in French. She was a devoted Catholic and faithful parishioner of St. Mary’s Church for over 70 years.

She earned the nickname “Small but Mighty” while playing basketball in school, a name that proved to be fitting throughout her entire life.

We will miss her silly sense of humor and her ability to get us giggling along with her.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Kalil family between 2 – 5 PM on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury, MA. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 3, 2022 at St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury, and burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
