Springfield – Charles R. Goddard, Jr., 71, of Springfield, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022, at the Mercy Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born January 7, 1951, in Worcester, MA to Charles Sr. and Roberta (Weir) Goddard. Known as “Chasey” to family and friends, he grew up in Westborough, MA. He attended Westborough High School where he was a four sport athlete. He graduated from Westborough High School in 1968. In 1970 “Chuck” married his high school sweetheart Deborah Manning, also of Westborough. Together they had two children, Kristin and Erin.
Also in 1970 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed on the Japanese island of Okinawa, training as a tank commander. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Chuck returned to New England where he was self-employed as a general contractor. Later in life he was employed as an Inspection Supervisor with WayFinders, a housing advocate organization in Springfield, MA until his retirement in 2021.
Chuck enjoyed camping, fishing and following his favorite professional sports teams.
His family includes a daughter Kristin (Goddard) Lane and her husband Michael of North Andover, MA; three grandchildren Caitlin Lane, Megan Lane and Michael Lane Jr., all of North Andover, MA and a son Kenneth Goddard of Springfield, MA. He is pre-deceased by his daughter Erin Goddard. He is also survived by three brothers, two nieces and a grand-niece.
A memorial service with military honors, will be held at 11 AM on Friday, November 4th in the Pickering and Son Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St. Westborough.
