Anjali NatarajanShrewsbury – Anjali Natarajan, née Angeline Charity George, of Shrewsbury, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 30th, 2022 at the age of 84.

Ms. Anjali, also known as Angeline or Angie, was a woman who is best described as larger than life; she was a mother, sister, and inspiration to far more than just those who were related to her by blood. Her generous spirit made her an empathetic confidante and a charitable giver to many. She could recite Macbeth from memory, cook enough to feed armies, and make a friend out of anyone, regardless of background or differences.

Born on September 22nd, 1938 in Rangoon, Burma–then British India– Ms. Anjali was the third of seven children (in order: Cynthia, Allen, Angeline, Vincent, Winfred, Jason, and Evelyn). Her parents were Keller William George and Mercy George née Joseph, both devout Christians from Lutheran and Baptist backgrounds

A woman of profound faith herself, Ms. Anjali grew up dedicated to the church, taking on prominent roles such as choir leader, pianist, and more in her youth. After her family moved to Tamil Nadu following the Japanese invasion of Burma, Ms. Anjali attended school at Christ Church in Chennai. A relentlessly hard worker, she went on to work for the Tamil Nadu government in the Public Works Department and was commended for her performance and diligence.

In 1967, she married the love of her life, Natarajan Doraisamy. The couple had a daughter, Renu, and a son, Rajan, who were raised in Chennai. In 1997, Ms. Anjali and Mr. Natarajan followed their children to the U.S. There, they became grandparents to four girls.

In 2004, Ms. Anjali’s husband tragically passed away after 37 years of marriage. Although she would feel his loss the most, she was an unwavering beacon of strength for the rest of her family. This was simply Ms. Anjali’s way: regardless of hardship or suffering, her love was unflinching.

She was a fiercely independent woman as well and always sought to give back to her community. Her faith remained a critical part of her life in the U.S., and she was the senior most member of the Southborough JFM Church until the time of her passing. Even while she lived in the U.S., Ms. Anjali continued to support families in need and children’s education in India. She was an optimist in the truest sense of the word: a fighter, endless in her strength and perseverance to help others. This remained true until her very last breath.

Ms. Anjali is survived by her brother Dr. Vincent George; her sister Evelyn Francis; her two children, Renuka Krishnamurthy and Raviraj Natarajan; her son-in-law, Jay Krishnamurthy; her daughter-in-law, Simi Raviraj; her four grandchildren, Pallavi Krishnamurthy, Rebha Raviraj, Sindhu Krishnamurthy, and Srika Raviraj; and all those who considered her family.

Her reach cannot be quantified, and her loss is felt deeply.

All whose lives were touched by Ms. Anjali are cordially invited to attend visiting hours at the Chiampa Funeral Home, 5 Church Road, on the Common, Shrewsbury Center, on Friday, January 6, 2023, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Funeral home service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 9:00 AM
