WESTBOROUGH – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced milling operations on the I-495 southbound ramps to and from Interstate 90 in Hopkinton and Westborough.

The work is scheduled to take place overnight on Wednesday, June 28, through Thursday, June 29, between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. The work will conclude by 5 a.m. on Thursday, June 29.

During the work, the following detours will be in place:

– When the Route 495 southbound exit 58 off-ramp to I-90 is closed, traffic will be directed to use exit 54A (West Main Street) in order to access Route 495 northbound to I-90.

– When the I-495 southbound on-ramp from I-90 is closed, traffic traveling on I-90 will be directed to use I-495 northbound and take exit 59B (Route 9 West) back to I-495 southbound.

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area. Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed and use caution. This work is weather permitting and subject to change.

This is part of the project that will replace the interchange; eliminate the old toll booth area and weaving areas; improve ramp spacing, acceleration and deceleration lanes; and add an auxiliary lane from I-495 northbound to Route 9.

New bridges will be constructed on I-495 over I-90, on I-495 and I-90 over the MBTA/CSX/Amtrak lines, on I-495 northbound over Flanders Road, and on Fruit Street. The project design is taking place now through December 2024, with project completion scheduled for June 2027.
