Heat advisory in place as hot and humid weather on the way
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from July 27 to 28.

WESTBOROUGH – It will be hot and humid over the next several days.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the area from 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, through 8 p.m. on Friday, July 28.

High temperatures are expected to be in the 90s through Saturday.

Westborough police has advised those seeking relief from the heat to go to the Senior Center on Rogers Road.

Police also recommend to stay hydrated; limit outside activities; wear lightweight clothing (no dark colors); check on your neighbors, and friends who may live alone; and monitor your pets – do not leave them inside vehicles.

Hot and humid conditions often lead to thunderstorms. On the afternoon of Tuesday, July 25, a line of storms caused flooding at the East Main Street bridge; several trees were knocked down as well.

“Ultimately, the amount of rain we had and the blockage of storm drains contributed to the issues we saw in the roadways,” said Lt. Michael Daniels. “The Westborough DPW handled it pretty quickly so the issues we would see normally were resolved quickly.”

Police also recommend:

  1. Do not drive through large amounts of water, seek alternate routes.
  2. Drive to the nearest shelter.
  3. Stay updated with weather forecasts.
  4. Stay away from trees and electrical equipment
  5. Secure outdoor items.
  6. Stay indoors.

The Community Advocate will post when news is shared about cooling shelters. Marlborough will have a cooling shelter at the Senior Center.
