NORTHBOROUGH – After offering a conditional employment for a new town administrator, the candidate has withdrawn.

The Select Board interviewed three finalists for the position on July 6 before offering the job to Courtney Friedland, who is currently the assistant town administrator in Webster.

The board made a conditional offer of employment to Friedland, subject to a background check and negotiation of a contract.

“Today the Select Board unfortunately received a statement of withdrawal from Courtney Friedland,” the Select Board wrote in a message to the community July 27.

It continued, “We thoroughly enjoyed meeting Courtney and wish her all the best.”

During an executive session on July 26, the board was scheduled to conduct contract negotiations for the town administrator. The Select Board did not vote on a contract when they returned to open session.

The other two finalists for the position were David Genereux and David Williams.

According to the release, the Select Board will be discussing a timeline and process to recruit a new town administrator soon.
