MARLBOROUGH – Marlborough, state and federal officials gathered at the Sligo Water Tank on July 24 to celebrate wrapping up projects that began using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

“We can’t thank [Congresswoman Lori Trahan] enough for coming and visiting us and allocating these funds for Marlborough,” said Mayor Arthur Vigeant.

The ARPA funds allowed the city complete the Sligo Water Tank project.

The tank was built in the 1960s. The project rehabilitated the tank, including sandblasting the tank, recoating the interior and exterior and installing an OSHA-approved hatch, tank ladder and roof safety rail improvements.

As of the press conference, the project was substantially completed.

“These upgrades are vital to keeping our water infrastructure operating as it stores two million gallons of water for our residents,” said Vigeant.

“There’s no question around the country we’ve had deferred maintenance on so much of our water infrastructure,” said Trahan. “That really is why the bipartisan infrastructure law was so important to get over the line, but also it’s been great to work with our city officials, our mayor, our state reps on using the ARPA funds.”

She said the funds provided flexibility that cities needed to be able to complete projects like the Sligo Water Tank.

“I’m thrilled that we’re able to celebrate the completion of this project and grateful for the partners that I’m standing alongside in getting all of those funds deployed to make Marlborough a better place to live and work and raise a family,” said Trahan.

Marlborough has also used ARPA funds for other projects, including a truck for the Marlborough Fire Department, a boardwalk around Lake Williams and the dek hockey rink.
