HUDSON – Hudson resident Patrick Kerrigan graduated from the Mass. State Police Academy in Springfield on Aug. 3. Graduation marked the successful completion of the 33-week course.

Officer Kerrigan is a graduate of Hudson High School and a former Hudson police officer. Among those attending were his mother, Nancy Hubert of Hudson and his father, retired Hudson Police Officer Joe Kerrigan, who pinned on Patrick’s new badge. Also attending were: Ann Hubert, Hudson Firefighter Richard Hubert, Kenny Durkin, Thalita Campelo, Thaissa Campelo, and Thales and Wanessa Campelo, all of Hudson. Congratulations Patrick!

Path to ‘Eagle’

Hudson Girl Scout Shelby Caissie unveiled her Eagle Scout project, a “Gaga Ball Pit” at D.J. Quinn Middle School Wednesday evening, Aug. 23.

A student at AMSA in Marlborough and a member of Hudson Troop 2, Shelby said: “Gaga Ball resembles Dodge Ball, but is safer.”

The six-sided pit is made of composite deck boards and the steel corner pieces were power coated by Patriot Coating of Hudson. Shelby had help with her project from her fellow Troop 2 Scouts, Scoutmasters Melissa Caissie (her mother) and Andrew Hermann. The build was sponsored by the Quinn Parents’ Organization.

Shelby joined Girl Scouts in 2018 and Boy Scout Troop 2 in 2019, when girls were first allowed to join. She has several other steps to take before getting her Eagle Scout badge, and Scoutmaster John Bishop said that she will eventually be the first female Eagle Scout in Hudson history. Shelby, 15, and her twin brother, Brodie, are children of James and Melissa Caissie of Hudson.

“Off the Blotter”

Hudson Police Chief Rick DiPersio announced that the Department has welcomed a new Police Officer, Christopher LaDou, formerly with the Berlin Police Dept. Officer LaDou is currently in field training.

Chief DiPersio remarked on the success of the second annual National Night Out for Hudson families at Riverside Park. He said about 300 community members, including many children, enjoyed rides in the cruiser, observing the department helicopter landings, actions by the SWAT and other teams, “and the finale of pizza and ice cream for all.” “Night Out” was organized by the department’s Community Action Team.

Free “cuts and backs”

Children, ages 4-16, will receive free haircuts and backpacks at Hudson Eagles Hall, 271 Cox St., Sunday, Aug. 27 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Local hairdressers have donated their services for the club’s first annual Back to School event. Event is for walk-ins only, and free backpacks will be available to all attending as long as supply lasts.

‘61-ers gather

Several members of the Hudson High School Class of 1961 held a “Get-together” luncheon at Bolton Street Tavern, Marlborough, Saturday, Aug. 19. Committee planning the event included Norma (Perry) Giannattasio of Framingham, Ruth (Gill) Warner of Hopkinton, Louise (Rosenberry) Jardin of Berlin, Peggy (Sleeper) Jordan of Marlborough, Warren Richards of Florida and Hudson, Verna (Hamilton) Kosiva.

Craft fair

Annual Fall Craft Fair, for crafters and vendors, will be held Saturday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at First Federated Church Hall, 200 Central St., Hudson. Tables are $25, with electricity $30. Call 978-562-9207 or go to [email protected].

HARVEST DINNER SEPT. 10

Fund-raising Harvest Dinner, for the Hudson Armory Art Center project, will be Sunday, Sept. 10 at the Armory, Park Street. Social hour will be from 4-5 p.m., four-course dinner 5-7:30 p.m., dessert and silent auction 7:30-9 p.m. Food and libation will be served by twelve Hudson restaurants, etc. Tickets are $150 per person and $1200 per table. BACK IN 1973

Modular homes were being built on West Street, Lake Boon, by AVCO Homes. Sisters Paula Visnoski and Linda Rafuse exhibited their art work at Hudson Public library. Tom Walsh, retired Light & Power manager, was attending a Credit Union course at University of New Hampshire.

The Alving brothers opened Lake Boon General Store at 700 Main St. Mrs. Adeline Perry presided at the meeting of the Hudson Senior Citizens. Dave Otto beat Stan Diniz to claim the men’s singles title of the Riverside Tennis Club. Realtor John Sleeper advertised “4-bedroom older home on corner lot” for sale for $30,000.
